Environmental education in early preschool age
In order for people to form a respectful attitude towards nature, it is necessary to educate children from an early age. Environmental education implies the development of ideas about the world around and ways to preserve it.
Process features of education
Talking about why you shouldn't throw litter and protect endangered species is helpful, but ineffective. It is much better to conduct educational work together with the development of cognitive activity.
Tasks of environmental education:
- Develop responsibility for the world around you;
- Prevent the development of destructive actions;
- To form ideas about the close relationship between nature and all living things;
- Develop an aesthetic taste.
Environmental education can be carried out in many ways and therefore should not be limited to one thing.
Some tricks of environmental education
A respect for nature is formed gradually. You should tell you kiddo why it is bad to pick flowers, break bushes, and throw stones at squirrels and birds. He is attracted to the care of houseplants and pets.
During walks, you can talk about environmental problems and solutions. For example, if garbage is lying around, it poisons the soil and poses a danger to birds and animals. Plastic that floats in the world's oceans destroys fish and sea animals.
It is advisable to get out often to parks, forests, lakes, rivers. In such an environment, it is easier to get acquainted with the local flora and fauna. Zoos, botanical gardens, museums will be a good idea too.
More examples – more result
In order to form a correct attitude towards nature, you should show your child what and how it works in the nature. For example, sand can be dry or wet. The child is asked to touch both species, study it and compare. Dry can be poured (for example), and wet is an excellent material for modeling.
Traces and prints remain well on wet sand, but dry sand is more pleasant to hold in your hands, and it can warm up. It becomes wet after being wetted with water or rain.
Such simple experiments allow you to clearly demonstrate your child that everything affects the environment. And it’s very significant that examples must be negative too. For example, a discarded cigarette butt or a carelessly lit fire will start a fire. As the result it will destroy not only trees, but also many living beings.
Parents should be an example for their kids. Then children will adopt behaviors and habits. For example, if a mother grows indoor flowers and takes care of them, then the baby will repeat her actions. You can buy him a small watering can and ask for help in watering. Plants with large leaves need to be washed and the child can do this on their own.
Also a great idea is to cultivate an attitude towards nature by caring for fish or animals. It is enough to have a mouse or aquarium fishes. A preschooler, under the supervision of an adult, can feed, clean the cage, and play.
All these little steps will lead to a great result in future! Let’s save our planet together with our kids.
